On this page and the next there are two paintings by Tony (neither are the clown painting in question, which has been hidden away for the moment). He explains some of the background to the two paintings:
"I admire the Mexican rite called Day of the Dead. I've lost many friends to AIDS, and my Dad to Alzheimers. While I don't believe in God, on this day, death is honored and mocked at the same time. It's not unusual to see skeleton brides, clowns, and little children dressed as skeletons.
The first painting is a skull, and inside its laughing mouth, there's me and my cat. I don't know what it means. Like many of you, I get an idea, and either go for it, or not. I have yet to finish this painting, adding highlights to the room inside the mouth.
