Photographing 2D and 3D Work for a Portfolio

A helpful tip to add to your painting knowledge.

By Marion Boddy-Evans, About.com

From my experience, it's best to shoot 2D work unframed. Try to have a black background if possible. They also make tape to put on slides to block out non-artwork areas. You probably want to have two or three views of a 3D piece (show at least the front and back).
Tip from: Brine.

I've a large piece of matt black card stuck to one wall that I take photos of my paintings against. That way I don't have to worry about the painting filling the photo, there'll be nothing in the background to distract from it anyway.
